Triumphant Return to North Carolina's Outer Banks

Updated: Feb 21

I spent four summers and one very long winter in the Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head portion of the Outer Banks during and immediately after college. To me, the Outer Banks have always been a mystical refuge from the rest of the world - so far out into the Atlantic Ocean, you have to either take a ferry or cross miles of bridges over open water just to get there. It's a landscape as harsh as it is indescribably beautiful.

A couple of weeks ago I served as Director of Photography and Camera Operator for an HGTV show pilot set on the Outer Banks. It was the first time I had been back there in over a year, and even with frigid temps and a relentless north wind, it felt like being home. I have shot a few reality-based pilots (one went to series) and I have good feelings and the highest hopes for this one! Thanks to LION TV for the opportunity and to super producer Steve Kantor for the really fun shoot!
