2024 NEWS

 

February 2024

I had a blast shooting in my old stompin’ grounds on the Outer Banks this week. Even with the temps hovering around 40 degrees and the winds gusting to 50-70mph, it felt like being home. I have shot a few pilots for reality shows in the past, but I have extremely high hopes for this one. Thanks to everyone involved for making this a really fun experience. January 2024

January started off with a bang and I jumped right into a couple of projects for local non-profits here in the Wilmington, North Carolina area. The first was a really beautiful survivor tribute for the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Heart Association which you can view HERE.

​

The second was a powerful, heartbreaking, yet ultimately triumphant short film for Carousel Child Advocacy Center which serves about 500 abused and neglected children in our area every year. You can view "Emma" HERE.

NEW NIKON Z9!

Last year, a colleague of mine who now works @nikonusa called and asked if I would be interested in trying out one of their cinema cameras and some lenses. As a loyal, longtime Sony owner/operator I was a bit skeptical, but definitely intrigued. He sent me their flagship model #nikonZ9, and two S-Line lenses: a 24-70/2.8 and an 85/1.2. I will be implementing all three into my workflow this year and will be writing and reporting on the results here and on my website. Thank you to Javier Storch at Nikon for the opportunity!

 

My good friend Darwin Brandis (@brandicular) has developed a cutting-edge product photography system that institutes a video background and an oscillating camera arm. The result is this mesmerizing effect which we enhanced with @quasarscience tubes. I have no doubt that Darwin’s invention will revolutionize the product photography world! We shot this video of my new Z9 with Darwin's Z7 and I think the results speak for themselves!

December 2023

I had the distinct pleasure of shooting an interview with legendary sportscaster Jim Lampley this week for an upcoming documentary. Mr. Lampley is a national treasure - a passionate and incredibly intelligent man who has witnessed some of the most important sporting and cultural events in history. It was great to get my hands on the Arri Amira again for this project and I would like to thank Live Star entertainment for the opportunity.

10.9.23: Hello! I took a long break from updating this site, primarily because this has been a busy year both professionally and personally.

 

I frequently work in the film industry, so 2023 has been an unusual period of time because of the WGA and SAG strikes. I know a lot of my union brothers and sisters have been hurting, and I hope for a speedy and positive end to the ongoing SAG strike.

 

Nevertheless, this past Spring and Summer brought some exciting and interesting projects and I am grateful for all of them. Here's a list of the highlights:

Aesculap Corporate Videos May 2023

Aesculap manufactures and develops 3D robotic surgical microscopes. Earlier this year, they hired me as Director of Photography to shoot two surgeries at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center here in Wilmington, NC. I shot both surgeries on one day and it was quite an experience! The first surgery was a brain tumor removal and the second was a carotid endarterectomy. The Aesculap EOS Microscope is controlled by foot pedal by the surgeon, and it projects a 3D image to several monitors around the room. The entire surgical staff watches the surgery while wearing specialized 3D glasses. I had to undergo a rigorous screening process by Green Security in order work in the OR, including a comprehensive vaccination process, background checks and online training. Super cool project!

The Economist, September 2023

The Economist is a British weekly newspaper printed in demitab format and published digitally. It focuses on current affairs, international business, politics, technology, and culture. I was honored to be tapped to serve as Director of Photography for an "Economist Impact" mini-documentary about Charlotte, NC-based software developer RXO and their IT consultants, InfoSys. Infosys Limited is an Indian multinational information technology company that provides business consulting, information technology and outsourcing services.

The Cameron Team "Brunswick County Tour", April 2023 - July 2023

I have had the good fortune of working with Melanie Cameron and her incredible team of real estate professionals for several years now. This year, Melanie tasked me with shooting a comprehensive video tour of Brunswick County, NC's red-hot real estate market. Using drones, Sony video cameras, GoPros and even iPhones, we captured the essence of Brunswick County's beaches, golf courses and most popular neighborhoods.

 

Brunswick County is the fastest growing county in the state of North Carolina and one of the fastest growing in the country. People interested in moving to the North Carolina Coast should do themselves a favor and visit www.TheCameronTeam.net for the best information available about the local market.

We won the Greensboro, NC 48-hour Film Project!!! July 2023

The 48-Hour Film Project is a travelling film contest that challenges teams to write, produce, cast, shoot, edit and submit a completed film in 48 hours. The topic of the film is generally unknown up until the release of the genre/topic/style reveal at the start of the contest. We pulled together a semi-ragtag crew of *mostly* inexperienced (though eager and enthusiastic) like-minded folks to create "Squeaky Clean", and we won! As Director of Photography, there were a lot of things I would have done differently under normal circumstances, but I am really proud of what a group of strangers were able to pull together in just two days.

 

"Squeaky Clean" will next be shown at Filmapalooza in Lisbon, Portugal in March 2024. Watch "Squeaky Clean" here.

Always Outdoors/Sodexo Shoot, August 2023

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Director of Photography for Sodexo USA via their Portland, OR-based advertising agency, Always Outdoors. Sodexo is one of the world's leading sustainable food service companies operating in 53 countries with 422,000 employees serving 100 million consumers each day.

Gumball Poodle Socks, September 2023

Gumball Poodle makes the world's coolest socks! Bright colors, amazing quality, fun and funky designs are the trademarks of the Gumball Poodle brand. I am lucky to have a good friend on the inside with the mad scientists at Gumball Poodle, and I had the opportunity to serve as Director of Photography and camera operator for a really funny commercial for them. I'll post the finished project as soon as they're finished baking it!

 

PADI Certified SCUBA Diver, August 2023

I got my Open Water re-certification this past summer, and had such a great experience that I decided to also get PADI Advanced Open Water and Nitrox certifications as well. We have great diving off of the North Carolina coast, aka "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" because of the myriad shipwrecks just off the coast. I am hoping to use these new certifications to capture underwater footage of our manmade and wreck reefs. 

 

Winter 2023 Updates

January/February 2023, "Zoey 102: The Wedding" Paramount+ feature, C & D-cam Operator

Grateful to start off the year with the opportunity to be a camera operator on a Paramount+ feature film. Fans of the Nickelodeon series "Zoey 101" will love this film starring Jamie Lynn Spears.

"It's Not Summer Without You" Book Cover

So in an odd twist of fate, I ended up taking the photo of Gavin “Jeremiah” Casalegno (center) for the cover of “It’s Not Summer Without You”, the second book in Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” trilogy. I shot it on my Sony FX3, which I didn’t even know could take stills until that day. Big thanks to to TSITP social media producer and good friend Kendall Stetson for pulling it all together!  I am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve gotten while working on this show.

Certified FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot

I passed my Part 107 test today and am now a Certified Drone Pilot! After several years of flying recreationally, I am now able to fly professionally! I also recently purchased a brand-new DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine drone with the smart controller. Check out my drone reel on the home page.

Congratulations Jessica Chastain! Oscar Nomination for "The Eyes of Tammy Faye"

February 2022

I had the good fortune of being the EPK DP for "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" during its production in 2019, so it was great to see Jessica Chastain receive an Oscar nomination today! The footage we shot is now "The Making Of: The Eyes of Tammy Faye", currently available as an accompaniment to the film on HBO+. This marks the second time I have worked on a film that led to an Oscar nomination for the lead actress. The first was Frances McDormand and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri". I expect Jessica to have the same success that Frances enjoyed in 2018. Thank you to Gregg Temkin and Mob Scene for the opportunity!

Sometimes dreams do come true! I had the opportunity to day-play as the C-camera operator on the limited series "George & Tammy", starring Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon for Spectrum Originals/Viacom CBS/Paramount Network (Sony Venice). "George and Tammy" is the story of legendary country music power couple George Jones and Tammy Wynette. So grateful for the opportunity - loved every second of it!

NEW CAMERAS!

November 2021

As and admitted "gear head", I love to get new equipment! This month I have added two new cameras to my arsenal: Sony FX9 and Sony FX3. Both have Sony's amazing Full Frame Sensor, with the FX9 capable of 6k, and the FX3 at 4k. Both of these cameras will add another layer of versatility and quality to my work.

We get to meet some great people in our line of work, but we had the unique pleasure of working with Derek Mears last week. Derek plays "Romo" in the Robert Rodriguez / James Cameron sci-fi epic "Alita: Battle Angel". Since Derek is currently in Wilmington working on location for another project, we were able to provide studio space, a green screen set, camera and sound services for his EPK interview. Derek is an absolute pleasure to work with and gave one of the most thoughtful interviews any of us have ever witnessed. We definitely look forward to an opportunity to work with Derek again!

Behind-the-Scenes for TNT series "Good Behavior"

Grateful for the opportunity to shoot behind-the-scenes footage for TNT's new series, "Good Behavior" this week, starring Michelle Dockery of "Downton Abbey" fame.

"The Choice" to open February 5th

EPK Films provided EPK and Behind-The-Scenes services for Nicholas Sparks' latest installment, "The Choice". Opening nationwide February 9th, "The Choice" features Benjamin Walker ("Into The Heart of the Sea") and Teresa Palmer ("Point Break"). EPK Films has a long history with Nicholas Sparks and we were honored to work on this film.

"FIST FIGHT" Begins Production in Atlanta

OCTOBER 7, 2015

We are in Atlanta this week shooting BTS/EPK on the feature film "Fist Fight", starring Charlie Day, Ice Cube, Tracy Morgan and Dean Norris. This is Tracy Morgan's first film project since his accident. It has been great working with this cast and crew so far! Thanks to all for being so welcoming and accommodating.

 

"The Choice" Release Date Announced

SEPTEMBER 2015

Last year we had the pleasure of being the embedded EPK camera on the set of the feature film "The Choice", based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. It was truly a wonderful experience to work with such a tight-knit and talented cast and crew. It was announced today that "The Choice" will be released into theaters everywhere on February 5, 2016. We are looking forward to seeing the final product!
